On the eve of the Als' home opener I threw my usual curveball question at Anthony Calvillo--"Is Cahoon more likely to see his record-setting touchdown catch on his first play, or is he more likely to dust off his breakdancing celebration for the occasion?"
Several years before, Cahoon had been dragged into an unusually flamboyant endzone performance by the likes of Jeremaine Copeland and Kwame Cavil, and it was embarrassing.
Calvillo laughed and just stressed the Als wanted their Velcro Hands back in the swing of things early. But his first touch of the football in 2008? Now that's clutch. Typical Cahoon reaction -- he tossed the milestone football making him the Als' alltime leading TD pass-catcher right back to the ref. When he got to the sideline he realized it was must-have memorabilia. Cahoon sent second-year Alouette Eric Deslauriers to fetch the ball.
It was the only time Deslauriers got his hands on the ball on a night when Calvillo was again generous with it.
AC knows his motivation like never before, and his uncanny 4th-quarter scrambles (one on a 2nd down and 15 to go situation) proved he's going 'all-in' this season, and not going to be content to take the safety-slides to avoid being hit.
Great to see Anthony's wife Alexia at the game. AC says she's always getting mad at him because he doesn't look at her. Must be something about those 12 guys on the other team trying to take your head off if you do!
Anthony and Alexia have a great idea. They're teaming up with the Cedars Cancer Institute and will help renovate the 7th Floor Family Room at the Vic. Every touchdown pass is $100 from AC and $100 from the CJAD Kids Fund for the job.
At this rate, Marc Trestman's new offense is going to cost AC his playoff bonus money! He'll gladly pay, and families who have to spend time on the 7th floor will be the better for it.
Sorry Jarrett Payton, but Avon Cobourne is no one-game wonder. Calls himself a Porsche Cayenne -- sturdy like an SUV but with some speed and moves. And unlike ANY running back the Als have had since '96 he's as comfortable catching passes as he is fighting off tacklers running with the ball.
